Interviewed By: Sheridan Sechter

>Sheridan: Please tell me about your business.
>Sally: Sally’s offers the possibility for you to have less stress in your life by encouraging you to set goals, change behaviors and habits and then adapt systems that reflect your particular lifestyle.

I encourage clients to consider several “I feel” statements:

  1. When I sort my clutter I feel
  2. I get angry about my clutter when
  3. Making a decision to discard items is hard because
  4. I would be more consistent if
  5. My disorganization stops me from
  6. Following a system means
  7. When I am more organized, I will feel

We provide organizing work in the residential environment from kitchens to closets, from the basement to the garage. Home offices are becoming a specialty. We also organize work environments. Move management is tailored for the individual client offering pre-packing, and full unpacking with organizing of items. Home and office re-design is another service for those listing homes or for clients who just can’t seem to arrange furniture and accessorize as they would like.

>Sheridan: How did you get into this business?
>Sally: I got into this business through varied business experience including office management, sales and administrative plus my own home management skills provided me a ’natural’ path to organizing. I had a house cleaning business for several years and due to health issues I had to change careers. I did minimal research on the industry and then focused on ’just doing it’.

>Sheridan: What about your work do you find to be the most rewarding?
>Sally: The most rewarding is simply experiencing the change clients are willing to make in their behavior and habits. The sheer amazement people express when they actually see the clutter disappear or when they express, “I haven’t seen that in years” is gratifying. The acknowledged appreciation from people is simply awesome at times.

>Sheridan: What do you find to be the most challenging?
>Sally: The most challenging thing is to fully understand that the goal of the project may constantly change. And to achieve an understanding of how and why the situation is like it is:

  1. What are the personal conflicts?
  2. Are there medical or emotional issues to be considered?
  3. Does a spouse or parent discourage and minimize the effort of a particular client?
